What to do if broke pachkhan of bhramcharya
If you have broken the pakhkhan of brahmacharya, Jain Dharma teaches immediate repentance, humility, and renewed restraint.
What to do:
- Accept the lapse honestly
- Do not hide it from yourself. - Acknowledge it with sincerity.
- Do Pratikraman
- Perform alochana: confess the fault in your heart or before Guru. - Do pratikraman with true remorse. - Ask forgiveness from the Tirthankars, Guru, and all living beings affected by the fault.
- Take a new pakhkhan carefully
- Do not take a vow casually again. - Take it only with firm intention and awareness.
- Increase vigilance
- Avoid situations, company, thoughts, and habits that weaken brahmacharya. - Strengthen indriya-jaya and self-control.
- Do austerity if appropriate
- Some people take a small prayaschitta according to their Guru’s guidance. - This is done with purity, not guilt.
- Keep faith and do not become discouraged
- In Jain Dharma, the important thing is falling less, repenting sincerely, and improving steadily.
Simple inner prayer: “Micchami Dukkadam. I repent for this fault. May I become more careful and pure in conduct.”
If possible, seek guidance from your Guru or learned Jain elder, because the exact pratikraman or prayaschitta can differ by tradition and level of vow.
