Is there a jaap for tirthankars?
Yes. In Jain Dharma, jaap for Tirthankars is commonly done in the form of name-smaran and mantra-japa.
Some widely used forms are:
- Namokar Mantra — the most important Jain mantra, offered to Arihants and Siddhas
- Tirthankar nam jaap — repeating the name of a specific Tirthankar, such as:
- Bhakti stavan / stotra — devotional recitation in praise of Tirthankars
In Jain tradition, the main purpose of jaap is bhakti, purification of mind, and remembrance of the virtues of the Tirthankar. It is not for asking worldly favors, but for moving toward samyak darshan, samyak jnan, and samyak charitra.
The most universal and highest Jain jaap is the Namokar Mantra.
