Why is ginger powder allowed
In strict Jain dietary practice, ginger is generally not allowed, because it is a root vegetable. In Jain dharma, root foods are avoided because they involve greater injury to living beings and also because they are considered less suitable for the discipline of ahimsa.
So, ginger powder is not allowed just because it is powdered. If it is made from ginger root, its मूल nature remains the same.
Sometimes people say it is “allowed” in:
- family custom
- less strict household practice
- medicine-related use
- regional tradition
But from a strict Jain vow-based view, ginger powder should be avoided.
If you are following Jain vrat, upvas, or strict vegetarian discipline, the safe rule is: avoid all forms of ginger.
