    jainism and stock markets

    4 months ago 81

In Jainism, stock markets are not prohibited, but they should be approached with right intention, non-violence, honesty, and restraint.

    Jain view on stock markets

A Jain householder may participate in business or investing if it is done:
    • Without deceit
    • Without exploitation
    • Without greed
    • Without harming living beings directly or indirectly
    • Without attachment and obsession

    Important Jain principles

    1. Ahimsa

    - Avoid businesses or investments that support violence, animal harm, weapons, intoxication, slaughter, or cruelty.

    1. Satya

    - No false trading, manipulation, insider misuse, or misleading others.

    1. Aparigraha

    - Do not become overly attached to wealth, profit, or speculation.

    1. Asteya

    - Do not gain through unfair means or cheating.

    1. Right livelihood

    - Choose earnings that are morally clean and do not increase sin.

    Practical Jain guidance

A Jain should be careful about investing in companies connected with:
    • animal slaughter
    • alcohol, drugs, or intoxication
    • gambling and addiction
    • weapons and violence
    • unethical exploitation
    • deception or fraud

    Jain attitude toward wealth

Wealth is acceptable as a means, but not as the goal. The Jain ideal is:
    • earn righteously
    • use wealth with responsibility
    • give in charity
    • remain detached
    • remember that soul purity is greater than profit

    In short

Stock market participation is acceptable in Jainism if it remains ethical, restrained, non-violent, and free from greed. The real focus should always be on right conduct and inner purity, not just financial gain.
