In Jain Dharma, killing a living being is not allowed, even for self-defense. Ahimsa is the highest principle.

For a householder (shrāvaka), if danger comes, the proper Jain approach is to protect yourself with minimum harm and without intention to kill. But deliberate killing remains himsa and creates karmic bondage.

For a monk or nun, even stronger restraint applies: they do not use violence for self-defense.

So, in simple words:

• Intentional killing = not allowed
• Avoid harm as much as possible
• Use the least violence only to protect life, without hatred or cruel intent

The Jain ideal is to save life without taking life.
