Types of - Pradesha Bandh
In Jainism, Pradesha Bandh refers to the “bondage of karmic particles” at the level of _pradesha_ (the smallest indivisible unit of space in Jain philosophy). It is one of the four types of bandh (bondage) that describes how karma binds to the soul. The four types of bondage are:
- Prakriti Bandh (Type of karma)
- Sthiti Bandh (Duration of karma)
- Anubhaga Bandh (Intensity of karma)
- Pradesha Bandh (Quantity of karma)
Regarding Pradesha Bandh, there are two main types:
- Sankrāmika Pradesha Bandh (Temporary or Transient Bondage)
- This occurs when karmic particles are bound to the soul for a very short period, and are replaced quickly by new ones of the same type.
- Vikālika Pradesha Bandh (Permanent or Stable Bondage)
- Here, karmic particles remain attached to the soul for a longer duration, until their fruition.
Summary: Pradesha Bandh specifically refers to the quantum or number of karmic particles attached to the soul, and is classified mainly as _Sankrāmika_ (transient) and _Vikālika_ (stable) types. This classification helps to understand the quality and quantity of karmic bondage, a key concept in Jain philosophy regarding the soul’s spiritual progress.
