Is clinging milder than possivness
In Jain Dharma, clinging can be subtler and sometimes milder in outward form than possessiveness, but both are forms of attachment and both bind the soul.
- Possessiveness = “this is mine,” the urge to own and control.
- Clinging = emotional holding, not wanting to let go, even if ownership is not strong.
From a Jain view, the real issue is rāga / mūrcchā — attachment and delusion. So while clinging may appear softer than possessiveness, both should be reduced through vairāgya, aparigraha, and awareness.
In short: yes, clinging is usually milder than possessiveness in expression, but not in spiritual effect—both are bondage.
