What should one do in this fast moving materialistic world to avoid such thoughts and if they slip into it what should one do to rectify

    4 months ago 56

In Jain Dharma, the main remedy is jāgruti — constant awareness — and vairāgya — inner detachment.

    To avoid such thoughts:

    1. Strengthen right faith and right vision (samyak darshan)

Remember that worldly success, praise, and possessions are temporary.

    1. Practice daily self-discipline

Keep a fixed routine for: - pratikraman - swadhyaya - meditation - chanting of Navkar Mantra

    1. Reduce attachment and greed

Stay simple in food, speech, habits, and desires. This weakens materialistic thinking.

    1. Keep good company

Associate with people who support dharma, restraint, and humility.

    1. Use awareness in the moment

Before any thought grows, ask: “Is this increasing attachment, pride, anger, greed, or delusion?”

    1. Live with contentment

Jain dharma teaches that peace comes from limiting desires, not expanding them.

    If such thoughts slip in:

    1. Do not panic or hate yourself

    Just notice the thought calmly.

    1. Immediately turn inward

Repeat Navkar Mantra or do a short pause in silence.

    1. Pratikraman / repentance

Acknowledge the fault, regret it, and resolve not to repeat it.

    1. Replace the thought

Bring the mind back to: - forgiveness - non-attachment - soul awareness - compassion for all जीव

    1. Correct with action

If the thought led to wrong speech or conduct, stop it at once and restore restraint.

    Simple Jain principle:

Thoughts are purified by awareness, repentance, and restraint. Life is purified by reducing attachment and increasing detachment.

If you live with samyak darshan, self-control, and daily pratikraman, even in a materialistic world the mind becomes steady and pure.
