Can you tell pratikraman vidhi with new sutrad

    one year ago 162

Certainly! Pratikraman is an important Jain ritual of repentance, reflection, and spiritual purification. The procedure (vidhi) involves reciting specific sutras (scriptures) and performing meditative practices. There are two main traditions in Jainism: Shwetambar and Digambar, and the sutras used may vary slightly between them. Below, I'll provide an outline of the general Pratikraman Vidhi using some of the newer or commonly recited sutras, as practiced in the Shwetambar tradition:

Pratikraman Vidhi (Shwetambar tradition, with commonly recited/newer sutras):

    1. Namokar Mantra (Navkar Mantra)

    - Recite the Namokar Mantra three times to begin.

    1. Samayik

    - Take the vow of equanimity (Samayik) by reciting: "Ichchhāmi samāiṁ pāḍikkamāṇaṁ."

    1. Pratikraman Sutras

    Recite the following in sequence:

    - Iriyavahiyā Sutra: Repentance for sins committed while moving. - Tassa Uttari Karane Sutra: Seeking forgiveness for unintentional faults. - Annattha Sutra: Acknowledging any faults not yet confessed. - Logassa Ujjoyagare Sutra: Offering obeisance to the twenty-four Tirthankaras. - Kāyotsarga: Practice meditative detachment, often with a specific posture (standing or sitting). - Pratikraman proper (Alocana, Pratikraman, Pratyakhyan, Khamemi Sutra): - Alocana: Confession of faults. - Pratikraman: Repentance. - Pratyakhyan: Resolve to avoid faults in the future. - Khamemi Savve Jiva Sutra: "Khamemi Savve Jiva, Savve Jiva Khamantu Me, Mitti Me Savva Bhuesu, Veram Majjha Na Kenai." (I forgive all living beings, may all living beings forgive me. I have friendship with all, enmity towards none.)

    1. Additional Modern Sutras

Many lay Jains now include the following in their Pratikraman: - Jiv Vichar: Reflection on the nature of the soul and non-violence. - Michchhami Dukkadam: "Michchhami Dukkadam" is spoken to seek forgiveness for any intentional or unintentional harm.

    1. Mangal Path

End with prayers for universal well-being, such as: - "Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramayah..." (May all beings be happy and free from suffering.)

Note: The above is a simplified outline. Traditionally, Pratikraman can last from 45 minutes to 2 hours, with recitation in Prakrit or local languages, and may involve more detailed rituals and sutras. Some groups, such as the Terapanthi Shwetambars, have a Nav Pratikraman with a focus on contemporary language and shorter format.

If you are seeking a specific "new" Pratikraman with updated or simplified sutras, many Jain organizations (such as Jain Shwetambar Terapanthi Mahasabha) have published booklets and audio guides in Hindi, Gujarati, and English, which are widely used today.

Would you like a more detailed step-by-step sequence, or the text of specific newer sutras? Please specify your tradition (Shwetambar or Digambar) if you want more precise details.
