is studying or following vedas permitted ?
In Jain Dharma, Vedas are not accepted as the authority for liberation. The Jain path follows the teachings of the Tirthankars and the Jain Agamas.
So, in simple terms:
- Following Vedic beliefs as the spiritual path is not part of Jain practice.
- Studying Vedas as knowledge, history, or literature is not the same as following them, but Jain Dharma does not treat them as guiding scriptures for moksha.
- A Jain should mainly rely on Samyak Darshan, Samyak Jnana, and Samyak Charitra, along with ahimsa, aparigraha, and self-discipline.
So the Jain view is: respect others, but follow the Jain path for spiritual progress.
