Upvaas pachkaan procedure
Upvaas pachchakhkhān procedure in Jain tradition is generally taken before starting the fast.
Simple procedure
- Sit in a clean, शांत place
Be calm, with folded hands and pure intention.
- Do samayik-minded preparation
Keep the mind focused on ahimsa, sanyam, and tyag.
- Take pachchakhkhān before sunrise or before starting the fast
Usually the fast is taken with a Guru, Sādhviji/Sādhu, or by self-recitation if allowed in your tradition.
- State clearly what you are observing
For Upvaas, say that you will not take: - food - water until the completion of the vow period
- Keep the vow with vigilance
Avoid: - eating - drinking - unnecessary indulgence - anger, pride, deceit, greed
- Parnāna / Parāṇā
After the fast is completed, take parāṇa according to the proper time and tradition, with awareness and gratitude.

The inner भाव should be:- “I am taking this upvaas for purification of karma, self-control, and spiritual upliftment.”
