In Jain dharma, anger and the thought of harming someone are not good. They create pāpa-bhāva and bind bad karma, especially when they arise from krodh (anger), even if no physical harm happens.

But there is an important difference:

    • If it was only a sudden thought or feeling after being woken up, and you did not actually act on it, the karma is much less severe than real violence.
    • If you knowingly wanted to harm someone or actually tried to do it, that is a stronger sin.
    • If it happened in a half-awake, uncontrolled state, Jainism recognizes that the mind was disturbed, so the fault is not the same as deliberate violence.

    So, in simple words:

    • The thought itself is not good
    • The real sin becomes stronger when there is intention and action
    • If you did not do anything, confess it in your heart, do pratikraman, and ask forgiveness

A Jain way to respond is:

    • become aware of the anger,
    • stop the thought,
    • say mentally: “Micchāmi Dukkaḍaṃ”,
    • calm yourself,
    • and practice kṣamā (forgiveness) and samyak smriti (mindfulness).

So: yes, the angry violent thought is spiritually harmful, but if it was only an involuntary thought and no harm was done, it is a lighter fault, not the same as actual violence.
