is it bad if we think of taking plastic surgery to avoid extreme and bad judgement from others which is highly affecting us mentally?

In Jain dharma, the main concern is the inner state of the soul, not the outer body.

Thinking about surgery to reduce severe mental suffering is not automatically “bad” in Jain terms. What matters is the intention and the attachment behind it:

    • If the thought comes from deep distress and a need to protect your mental well-being, it should be understood with compassion.
    • If it comes from strong body-attachment, vanity, or desire for approval, then Jainism would see that as a form of rāga and parigraha.

    Jain teaching encourages:

    • Ahimsa: do not harm yourself through overwhelming shame or self-hatred.
    • Aparigraha: reduce attachment to the body and to others’ opinions.
    • Samyak darshan: develop right understanding that the body is temporary.

    So, from a Jain view:

    • Taking care of mental suffering is important.
    • But the deeper work is to reduce dependence on outer appearance and public judgment.
    • If surgery is being considered, the question should be:
“Is this a calm, thoughtful choice for well-being, or is it driven by attachment and fear?”

A balanced Jain approach would be:

    1. Do not blame yourself.
    2. Seek support for mental distress.
    3. Practice detachment from others’ harsh judgments.
    4. Choose whatever is least rooted in ego and attachment.

If the pain is severe, compassion toward yourself is also part of right conduct. Jainism does not ask you to suffer unnecessarily.
