what is krodh
Krodh means anger.
In Jain Dharma, krodh is considered one of the main kashayas — inner passions that bind the soul with karma. It disturbs peace, increases violence in thought, speech, and action, and weakens samyak darshan and self-control.
In simple words:
- When a person becomes angry, the mind loses balance.
- Anger can lead to hurtful speech and harmful actions.
- It creates pudgalic bondage through karma.
Jain view:
Krodh is harmful because it opposes:- Ahimsa — non-violence
- Kshama — forgiveness
- Samata — equanimity
- Aparigraha — detachment
Spiritual remedy:
Jain teachings encourage:- Forgiveness
- Tolerance
- Self-restraint
- Meditation and awareness
- Remembering the soul’s pure nature
In Jain practice, conquering krodh is a part of inner purification and progress on the path to liberation.
