    2. Without undergoing vikurvana and not possessing vaikriya labdhi, how does a person possessing Vibhang Gyan perceive things? In what way does one perceive viparit gyan

    3 months ago 58

In Jain philosophy, Vibhang Gyan is a defective or perverted form of avadhi jnan. It does not mean the person actually changes form through vikurvana, nor that they possess vaikriya labdhi. Rather, the knowledge itself becomes distorted because of mithyatva and impurity of the soul.

How does such a person perceive things?

A person with Vibhang Gyan may perceive an object, but:
    • in a wrong way
    • in a reversed way
    • in a distorted way
    • with error in identity, size, direction, time, or nature

So the object is not necessarily transformed externally; instead, the cognition is perverted.

What does “viparit gyan” mean here?

Viparit gyan means contrary knowledge — knowledge opposite to reality.

    For example, one may:

    • take what is small as large
    • take what is far as near
    • take what is impure as pure
    • take what is one thing as another thing
    • understand the object in a reversed or false manner

    In simple words

    • Vaikriya labdhi and vikurvana relate to changing the body/form.
    • Vibhang Gyan relates to wrong knowing.
    • So the person does not actually transform the object; he perceives it incorrectly.

If you want, I can also explain the difference between Avadhi Gyan, Vibhang Gyan, and Keval Gyan in a simple Jain table.
