The cells does various function in our body, are those also jiv?
No. In Jain Dharma, cells are not jīva.
- Jīva means the conscious soul, the living essence.
- Cells are part of pudgal — matter.
- A body functions because a jīva is present in it.
- When the jīva leaves, the body and its cells remain only as matter, without consciousness.
So, the body’s cells help in physical functioning, but they are not themselves living soul (jīva) in Jain philosophy.
If you want, I can also explain this in very simple terms using jīva, ajīva, and pudgal.
