sprouts are not abaksh?
In Jain Dharma, sprouts are generally considered abhakshya / forbidden for strict practice because:
- they contain infinite or very subtle life in the germinating stage,
- eating them can cause hiṃsā,
- and they are usually uncooked, moist, and living growth.
So, for strict Jain observance, sprouts are not allowed.
However, some Jain families or traditions may differ in degree of strictness, especially in practical daily conduct. But the safe and traditional Jain rule is: sprouts should be avoided.
