What is deravasi..jains..
Deravasi Jains are Jain followers who give special importance to temple-based worship and derasars (Jain temples).
In simple words:
- “Dera” / “Derasar” means Jain temple.
- “Vasi” means one who belongs to or follows that place.
- So, Deravasi means a Jain who practices devotion mainly through temple पूजा, darshan, snatra, bhakti, and rituals.
Main features:
- They usually visit Jain temples regularly.
- They follow idol worship of the Tirthankars.
- They often perform puja, pratikraman, fasts, and other religious rituals.
- This tradition is found mainly among Shwetambar Jains, especially in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Difference from Sthanakvasi:
- Deravasi Jains worship in temples with मूर्ति.
- Sthanakvasi Jains do not worship idols; they do devotion in sthanak or prayer halls.
Deravasi is therefore a temple-oriented Jain tradition centered on devotion to the Tirthankars and observance of Jain rituals.
