what is ahmisa
Ahimsa means non-violence — avoiding harm to any living being in thought, word, and action.
In Jain Dharma, Ahimsa is the highest and most important vow. It means:
- not hurting humans, animals, birds, insects, or even very small living beings,
- speaking gently and truthfully,
- acting with care and compassion,
- living with minimal harm in daily life.
For Jains, Ahimsa is not only avoiding physical violence, but also avoiding harmful intentions, harsh speech, and careless behavior.
In short: Ahimsa is complete respect for all life.
