In Jainism; how should we deal with evil people
In Jainism, we should deal with harmful or “evil” people with ahimsa, samatva, and karuna — non-violence, equanimity, and compassion.
Jain approach:
- Do not hate them. Hatred creates new karma.
- Do not imitate their behavior. Stay away from wrong actions.
- Protect yourself wisely. Non-violence does not mean being careless.
- Remain शांत and balanced. Keep the mind free from anger and revenge.
- Wish for their spiritual improvement. Every soul has the capacity to change.
- Practice forgiveness. Forgiveness is a strong Jain virtue.
- Use right conduct. If needed, stop harm through peaceful, ethical means without malice.
Core Jain principle:
The person is not eternal “evil”; rather, the soul is covered by karma and delusion. So the Jain response is: reject the wrongdoing, not the soul.In simple words:
- Be kind
- Be careful
- Be firm in dharma
- Be free from hatred
This is the Jain way of facing harmful people while protecting purity of soul.
