The Story of King Shrenik and the Sparrow

King Shrenik was a great ruler in ancient Jain history. One day, he saw a small sparrow trapped in danger. The king had the power to save it, and he did so with compassion.

A learned Jain monk explained to him that even the smallest living being has a soul and deserves ahimsa — non-violence. The king realized that true greatness is not in power, but in compassion, restraint, and respect for all life.

From that day, he tried to live more carefully, with kindness and awareness toward every living being.
