In Jainism, crimes do not mean “it was okay because of karma.”

Jain दर्शन teaches:

• Karma is not an excuse for wrongdoing.
• A person commits crime because of his own passions like anger, greed, pride, deceit, and attachment.
• Karma works as a condition, not as permission.

It means past karma may create circumstances, but the soul still has choice and responsibility in how it acts.

• The one who harms others binds new papa karma.
• The one who suffers injury is also experiencing the results of his own past karma, but that does not make the criminal innocent.

So, in Jainism:

• The criminal is responsible for the crime.
• The victim is not to be blamed.
• Both violence and injustice create bondage of karma.

This is why Jain ethics strongly emphasize:

• Ahimsa — non-violence
• Self-control
• Forgiveness
• Right conduct

In simple words: Karma explains suffering, but it never justifies cruelty. A person must still choose dharma over wrongdoing.
