isn't this restarting rule a distraction from the samayik itself
Yes, it can become a distraction if the mind turns the rule into worry instead of संयम.
In samayik, the main purpose is equanimity, self-awareness, and reducing attachment and aversion. If someone keeps obsessing over “Did I restart correctly?” then the mind may move away from the real inner practice.
At the same time, rules in Jain dharma are not meaningless. They are meant to support discipline and purity of conduct. So the best approach is:
- Follow the rule sincerely
- Do not become mentally agitated about it
- Bring the attention back to awareness, repentance, and equanimity
- Do not let procedural worry overpower the spiritual aim
In simple terms: The rule should serve samayik, not replace samayik.
If a mistake happens, the Jain way is to respond with smriti, vinay, and samata—not frustration. The inner state is more important than anxiety about form.
