How many jain sects are there
In Jainism, there are two main sects:
- Digambara: This sect believes that true monks should not wear any clothes, symbolizing complete renunciation. Digambaras also have certain differences in scriptures, rituals, and practices compared to the other sect.
- Śvētāmbara: This sect allows monks and nuns to wear simple white clothes and has its own set of scriptures and traditions.
Within these two main sects, there are further sub-sects:
- Digambara sub-sects include: Terapanthi, Bisapanthi, and Taranapanthi.
- Śvētāmbara sub-sects include: Murtipujaka, Sthānakavāsī, and Terapanthi (Śvētāmbara).
So, while there are two primary sects in Jainism, there are several sub-sects within each, reflecting diversity in practices and interpretations among Jains.
