Is liquor not considered as vighai
Yes — in Jain dharma, liquor is not counted as “vighai” in the usual sense.
Vighai generally refers to certain food substances like:
- milk
- curd
- ghee
- oil
- sweet items such as jaggery, etc.
Liquor is different because it is:
- intoxicating
- harmful to mind, body, and vows
- fully unsuitable for Jain conduct
So, while liquor may not be classified under the ordinary category of vighai, it is still strictly prohibited and avoidable in Jain ethics. It is considered a cause of carelessness, हिंसा, and downfall in संयम.
