Items to be quitted in Rasparityag
In Rasparityāg (renunciation of taste/luxury in food), the main items to be given up are the six rasas:
- Madhur rasa – sweet
- Amla rasa – sour
- Lavaṇa rasa – salty
- Tikta rasa – bitter
- Kaṭu rasa – pungent/spicy
- Kaṣāya rasa – astringent
In practical Jain observance, it also means reducing attachment to:
- tasty and rich foods,
- over-spiced food,
- indulgent eating for pleasure,
- desire for variety and delicacy in food.
The purpose of Rasparityāg is to develop detachment, self-control, and simplicity in daily living, while supporting Ahimsa and spiritual discipline.
If you want, I can also give the common Jain categories of food renunciation in simple points.
