Why we dont eat eggs
In Jain Dharma, we do not eat eggs because of ahimsa — non-violence.
An egg is avoided because:
- It may contain life
- In many cases, an egg can develop into a living being. - Jainism teaches that we should not consume anything that may involve destruction of life.
- It is part of reproductive life
- Eggs are connected with the process of birth and creation of life. - Jain ethics ask us to avoid harming living beings even indirectly.
- It increases violence and attachment
- Jain food discipline is meant to reduce injury to living beings and support purity, self-control, and compassion.
So, Jains avoid eggs because eating them does not align with the principle of non-violence toward all jivas.
In short: We do not eat eggs because Jainism protects life as much as possible.
