    Learn Jainism basic

    3 months ago 48

Jainism is an ancient Indian religion centered on ahimsa — non-violence — and the goal of freeing the soul from karmic bondage.

    Basic ideas of Jainism

    1. Soul

    • Every living being has a jiva (soul).
    • The soul is naturally pure, peaceful, and full of knowledge.
    • Because of karma, the soul becomes bound and experiences suffering.

    2. Karma

    • In Jainism, karma is a very subtle matter that attaches to the soul through actions, speech, and thoughts.
    • Good and bad actions both create bondage if done with attachment.

    3. Liberation

    • The highest goal is moksha — liberation from all karma.
    • A liberated soul becomes free, pure, and eternally blissful.

    4. Three Jewels

Jain spiritual life is based on:
    • Right Faith: true understanding and trust in the path
    • Right Knowledge: correct spiritual knowledge
    • Right Conduct: living with discipline and purity

    5. Five Great Vows

For monks and nuns, the main vows are:
    • Ahimsa — non-violence
    • Satya — truth
    • Asteya — non-stealing
    • Brahmacharya — chastity
    • Aparigraha — non-possessiveness

Lay Jains also follow these in a simpler form.

    6. Important values

    • Compassion for all beings
    • Self-control
    • Forgiveness
    • Detachment
    • Respect for life in all forms

    7. Tirthankars

    • Jainism teaches 24 Tirthankars, enlightened teachers who show the path to liberation.
    • Lord Mahavir was the 24th Tirthankar.

    Simple daily practice

    A beginner can start with:
    • Avoid harming any living being
    • Speak truthfully and kindly
    • Eat with awareness and non-violence
    • Practice forgiveness
    • Reduce greed and attachment
    • Remember the soul and its purity

    In one sentence

Jainism teaches how to live with complete non-violence, self-discipline, and purity so the soul can become free.
