Why do we not eat eggs
In Jain Dharma, we do not eat eggs because of ahimsa — non-violence.
An egg is considered part of life that may develop into a living being, so eating it can be seen as causing harm to potential life. Jainism teaches us to avoid food that involves violence, injury, or destruction of life, whether visible or subtle.
Also, Jain diet seeks to reduce:
- harm to living beings,
- attraction toward worldly indulgence,
- and attachment to food that comes from violence.
So, eggs are avoided because they do not fit the Jain ideal of pure, non-violent, and compassionate living.
