ELI10: What is Anekaantvaad
Anekāntavād means “many-sidedness” or “multiple viewpoints” in Jainism.
In simple words:
- A thing can be seen in more than one way.
- No single person can know the entire truth perfectly.
- What seems true from one angle may be incomplete from another angle.
Example:
Suppose someone says, “This jar is small.”That may be true if compared to a bucket. But it may be false if compared to a cup.
So Jainism teaches:
- Be humble in your opinions
- Listen to other viewpoints
- Avoid saying, “Only I am right”
Why it matters:
Anekāntavād helps us:- reduce anger and arguments
- understand others better
- speak carefully
- develop tolerance and wisdom
