Please explain gyan darshan and charitra
In Jain Dharma, Gyan, Darshan, and Charitra are the three jewels that lead the soul toward liberation.
1) Gyan (Knowledge)
Gyan means right knowledge — true understanding of the soul, karma, and the path of liberation. It is not just book knowledge; it is clear, correct, and doubt-free awareness.2) Darshan (Faith / Right Vision)
Darshan means right belief or right perception. It is the inner faith that the teachings of the Tirthankars are true and that the soul can attain liberation. Darshan gives the correct direction to knowledge.3) Charitra (Conduct / Right Conduct)
Charitra means pure conduct, disciplined living, and control over actions. It includes living with non-violence, truth, non-possessiveness, restraint, and self-control. Charitra puts knowledge and faith into practice.Simple understanding
- Darshan = seeing the truth correctly
- Gyan = knowing the truth correctly
- Charitra = living the truth correctly
In Jainism, these three together are essential. Without Darshan, knowledge can be misguided. Without Gyan, faith may remain blind. Without Charitra, both remain incomplete.
These three are also known as the path to moksha in Jain philosophy.
