What about onion in form of powder
In Jain dietary practice, onion powder is also avoided, because it comes from onion, which is a root vegetable.
In Jainism, root vegetables are generally not consumed because uprooting them destroys the whole plant and involves more harm to living beings. So even if onion is dried and made into powder, it remains onion in another form and is usually considered abhyakhya / forbidden in Jain food discipline.
So the simple answer is:
- Onion = not allowed
- Onion powder = not allowed
- Garlic powder = not allowed as well
If you are following a stricter Jain observance, it is best to avoid all such powders and seasonings.
