Can a Jain shout at and misbehave with a cat owner if the cat owner’s cat is killing pigeons?
No. In Jain Dharma, a Jain should not shout at or misbehave with anyone. Even if a cat is killing pigeons, the right Jain response is to act with ahimsa, calm speech, and compassion.
A Jain should:
- Speak softly and respectfully
- Try to stop the harm without anger
- Request the cat owner to keep the cat indoors or supervised
- Protect the pigeons if possible without violence
- Avoid hatred, abuse, or harsh behavior
In Jainism, anger is itself a form of violence. So even when seeing harm done to animals, one should not respond with cruelty or disrespect. The proper way is to use peaceful and truthful words to reduce harm.
So the Jain path is: stop the violence, but do not become violent in speech or conduct.
