How can I control my anger in daily life

    3 months ago 80

In Jain Dharma, anger is controlled by conquering the inner passions and practicing equanimity (samatva).

    Here are simple daily steps:

    1. Pause before reacting

When anger rises, stop speaking for a moment. Take a few deep breaths and become quiet.

    1. Remember the soul is separate from the emotion

Anger is a karma-driven state, not your true self. Your true nature is peaceful and pure.

    1. Practice forgiveness

In Jain practice, forgiveness is a powerful way to reduce anger. Try to let go of resentment quickly.

    1. Observe silence and self-restraint

Speak less when upset. Unnecessary speech often increases anger.

    1. Reflect on karma

Seeing every situation as a result of karma helps reduce blame and irritation.

    1. Cultivate compassion

Try to understand the other person's state of mind. Compassion weakens anger.

    1. Do pratikraman

At the end of the day, review your actions, repent for harsh words, and resolve to improve.

    1. Practice meditation and samayik

These help steady the mind and reduce passions like krodh.

    1. Reduce ego and attachment

Many anger problems come from hurt pride or unfulfilled expectations. Jain Dharma teaches aparigraha and humility.

    1. Keep good company and read inspiring Jain teachings

Association with calm, disciplined people supports inner control.

A very simple Jain reminder is:

“I should not hurt others with body, speech, or mind.”

If you remember this during conflict, anger slowly becomes easier to control.
