How to remain detached after doing action
In Jain Dharma, remaining detached after doing action means doing the work with sincerity, but without attachment to result, praise, or ownership.
How to practice this:
- Do your duty with awareness
Perform the action properly, carefully, and truthfully.
- Keep the feeling of doership light
Think: “I am only an instrument; the final result depends on many causes.”
- Do not crave praise or reward
Whether others appreciate you or not, remain steady.
- Accept success and failure equally
Both are temporary. Do not become proud in success or broken in failure.
- Reduce inner possessiveness
Attachment grows when we think, “This is mine,” or “I must get this outcome.”
- Practice equanimity
Stay शांत/समभाव in favorable and unfavorable situations.
- Reflect on the soul and karma
Understand that attachment binds karma, while detachment helps purify the soul.
Simple Jain understanding
- Action is necessary
- Attachment is harmful
- Detachment brings inner freedom
So, the right way is: work sincerely, surrender the result inwardly, and remain calm whether the result is good or bad.
A short Jain भावना for this is: “Karma karo, phal par asakti na rakho.” Do the action, but do not cling to the fruit.
