I get but practically how to reduce attachment

    3 months ago 52

In Jain Dharma, attachment (rāga / moha) is reduced by right understanding, restraint, and daily practice.

    Practically, you can do this:

    1. See everything as temporary

Remember: body, wealth, status, relationships, and possessions are all changing. This weakens clinging.

    1. Practice aparigraha

Keep only what is truly needed. Reduce unnecessary things, desires, and comfort-seeking.

    1. Do daily self-observation

Ask: - Why am I wanting this? - Am I disturbed because I did not get it? - Is this helping my soul or binding me more?

    1. Do Pratikraman

Reflect on mistakes, desires, anger, pride, deceit, and greed. This helps purify the mind and loosen attachment.

    1. Strengthen equanimity

Learn to stay balanced in gain and loss, praise and insult, success and failure. Equanimity is a powerful way to cut attachment.

    1. Reduce craving, not just action

Sometimes a person may outwardly give up things, but inwardly still remain attached. Jain practice focuses on calming the inner thirst.

    1. Use vows and discipline

Follow small vows, limits, and rules sincerely. Discipline weakens impulse and builds detachment.

    1. Meditate on the soul

Think: “I am the soul, not the body, not possessions, not labels.” This is very effective in reducing attachment.

    1. Practice contentment

Be satisfied with what is necessary. Contentment cuts the fire of endless wanting.

    1. Associate with spiritually minded company

Spend time in satsang, study of Jain teachings, and good conduct. The mind becomes less entangled in worldly attachment.

A simple Jain way to remember it is:

Less possession, less craving, more awareness, more equanimity.

If you want, I can also give you a very practical 7-day Jain detachment routine.
