What fruits and nuts can be eaten in ekshana

    3 months ago 50

In ekasana, the fruits and nuts that are generally taken are the simple, plain, fresh ones, within your one meal and according to your maryada / pachchakhkhān.

    Generally acceptable fruits

    • Apple
    • Banana
    • Orange / sweet lime
    • Pomegranate
    • Papaya
    • Mango
    • Grapes
    • Pear
    • Watermelon / muskmelon
    • Guava, if fully clean and well checked
    • Dates
    • Raisins
    • Tender coconut / coconut water, if your tradition allows

    Generally acceptable nuts

    • Almonds
    • Cashews
    • Walnuts
    • Pistachios
    • Dry coconut
    • Chironji / charoli
    • Makhana / fox nuts
    • Sometimes sesame or similar dry seeds, if your family/guru permits

    Keep in mind

    • Take them plain, not salty, masala-coated, fried, or mixed.
    • Use only clean, insect-free, fresh items.
    • Follow your local Jain tradition, because some families are stricter about items like figs, peanuts, or certain dry fruits.
    • If you are observing a stricter vow, then fruits or nuts may also be avoided.

If you want, I can also give a strict ekasana fruit-and-nut list or a Digambar/Shwetambar-wise list.
