Why to filter water
In Jain Dharma, water is filtered to avoid harming tiny जीवs that may be present in it.
Reasons:
- Ahimsa (non-violence): Filtering protects subtle living beings in water from being swallowed or injured.
- Purity: It helps remove visible impurities and makes water cleaner for use.
- Carefulness in daily life: Jain practice teaches mindfulness in even small actions, especially in eating and drinking.
Traditionally, a clean cloth or proper water filter is used so that drinking water becomes safer and more aligned with jiva-daya and ahimsa.
In short: water is filtered to reduce violence and to uphold Jain non-violence in everyday life.
