Was lonka shah right
Lonkā Śāh was right in some reform points, and disputed in others, depending on Jain tradition.
- He strongly emphasized simple, scripture-centered Jain practice.
- He opposed some practices he believed were later additions, especially image worship and certain ritual forms.
- His followers later formed the Sthānakvāsī tradition, which accepted non-idolatry and a more austere path.
From the viewpoint of Mūrtipūjaka Śvetāmbars, his rejection of mūrti-pūjā is not accepted. They hold that image worship is a valid Jain practice rooted in tradition and devotion.
So, in Jain context, it is more accurate to say:
- He was a sincere reformer
- His views were accepted by some Jains
- His views were rejected by others
Therefore, whether he was “right” depends on which Jain tradition’s standpoint you follow.
