What should I say to repent when I have a paap thought or do something wrong
In Jain Dharma, when a paap thought comes or you do something wrong, you can do pratikraman and say:
“Michchhā mi dukkaḍaṃ” Meaning: “May my fault be forgiven; I repent for the mistake I have done.”
You may also say with pure feeling:
“Kāyā, vāchā, manasā je koi pāp karya hoy, teni antar-thi kshamā māngu chu.” Meaning: “Whatever sin I have done by body, speech, or mind, I ask forgiveness from the heart.”
A simple Jain repentance prayer is:
“Khamemi savve jīve, savve jīvā khamantu me. Metti me savva-bhūesu, veraṃ majjhaṃ na kenai.”
Meaning:
- I forgive all living beings
- May all living beings forgive me
- My friendship is with all beings
- I have no enmity toward anyone
Most important is not just words, but true remorse, forgiveness, and the decision not to repeat the mistake.
If you want, I can also give you a very short daily Jain repentance prayer to say in 1 minute.
