is it really impossible to achieve moksh in current times?

    2 months ago 16

    Answer

In the current age of Jain time-cycle, many Jain traditions teach that moksha is not attainable here and now in Bharata Kshetra during the 5th ara. But this does not mean moksha is impossible for the soul forever.

    Explanation

    According to Jain cosmology:
    • The present period is the 5th ara of avasarpiṇī, a spiritually declining age.
    • In this age, the conditions needed for kevaljñāna and moksha are generally considered absent on this realm.
    • So, for worldly beings living now, direct liberation is not available in the usual traditional understanding.

    At the same time:

    • The soul is still capable of right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct.
    • You can still practice:
    - Ahimsa - Self-control - Aparigraha - Tapas - Pratikraman - Meditation and purification
    • These efforts help reduce karma and prepare the soul for liberation in a more suitable time or realm.

    Spiritual Understanding

Jain Dharma teaches that moksha is the soul’s natural state. The current age may be unfavorable, but it does not change the soul’s true destiny.

So the message is not despair, but discipline:

    • Do not lose hope
    • Do not waste the human birth
    • Live with purity
    • Reduce karmic bondage
    • Move closer to liberation

Even if final moksha is not reached in this age, every sincere step on the Jain path is spiritually valuable.

    Takeaway

So, yes—according to Jain tradition, moksha is generally not achievable in the present 5th ara of the current time-cycle. But the path of liberation is still very much alive, and the soul can still progress powerfully through Jain practice.
