Can we do Pooja in the name of other people

    2 months ago 17

    Answer

Yes, you may do Pooja while keeping another person in your भावना or sankalp, but in Jain Dharma the Pooja is ultimately an offering to the Tirthankar, not something that “belongs” to another person.

    Explanation

If you are asking whether you can do Pooja:
    • for the well-being of a family member,
    • in memory of someone,
    • or with the wish that another person receives spiritual and worldly auspiciousness,

then yes, this is acceptable in Jain tradition.

    But one important point is:

    • Pooja does not “transfer” your karma or merit to someone else in a literal way.
    • In Jainism, each soul is responsible for its own karma and spiritual progress.

    So, the correct intention is:

    • “I am doing this Pooja with devotion and with शुभ भावना for this person.”
    • not “I am giving my Pooja to this person.”

    Spiritual Understanding

In Jain Dharma, the main value of Pooja is:
    • devotion,
    • purification of mind,
    • humility,
    • and remembrance of the गुणs of the Tirthankars.

When you do Pooja with pure भावना for another person, it becomes a noble act of compassion. It can create peaceful, auspicious vibrations in your mind and may be a source of inspiration and blessings for that person, but spiritual progress always depends on one’s own right effort.

    Takeaway

Yes, you can do Pooja with another person in your mind or with a prayer for their welfare. Just remember that in Jainism, the real fruit of Pooja is inner purity, devotion, and शुभ भावना, not karmic transfer.
