Why shouldn't i punish my self when I use abusive words

    2 months ago 9

    Answer

In Jain Dharma, you should not punish yourself harshly when you use abusive words. Instead, you should स्वीकार your mistake, feel true repentance, and resolve to सुधार your speech.

    Explanation

Abusive words create negative karma because speech should be gentle, truthful, beneficial, and restrained. But self-punishment, especially with anger, guilt, or hatred toward yourself, does not cleanse karma in a healthy way.

    What Jainism encourages is:

    • Alochana — honest admission of the mistake
    • Pratikraman — repentance and turning back from the fault
    • Prayaschitta — appropriate spiritual correction, if needed
    • Sanyam — practicing control over speech next time

If you punish yourself out of self-hatred, the mind becomes more agitated. That agitation can lead to more anger, more regret, and more wrong speech. Jain Dharma teaches correction with awareness, not cruelty.

    Spiritual Understanding

From a Jain view, the goal is to purify the soul through right conduct, not to hurt the body or mind out of guilt.

    A better inner response is:

    • “I made a mistake.”
    • “I regret it sincerely.”
    • “I will be more mindful.”
    • “May I speak with kindness and restraint.”

This is more aligned with ahimsa toward yourself and others. True repentance softens the heart; it does not break it.

    Takeaway

Do not punish yourself. In Jainism, the better path is repent, reflect, forgive yourself, and practice better speech. That is real spiritual progress.
