In Jain tradition, Sumangala was the brother of Lord Mahavira. Sumangala was the elder brother, and Mahavira, also known as Vardhamana, was the younger son of King Siddhartha and Queen Trishala of the Ikshvaku dynasty. Sumangala played a role in the early life of Mahavira but did not pursue the spiritual path that Mahavira eventually chose.
