According to Digambar scriptures, when can a soul falling from the 11th Gunnasthanak rise again?

    2 months ago 3

    Answer

According to Digambar scriptures, a soul that falls from the 11th guṇasthāna can rise again when it again enters the spiritual ascent. There is no fixed “waiting period” given; the rise depends on the re-arising of proper karmic conditions and effort. In the upaśama-śreṇi, however, this ascent is temporary: it lasts only an antarmuhūrta, and the texts say it can be ascended only twice in one existence. If it has already been ascended twice, liberation in that life is considered impossible. ( jainworld.jainworld.com)

    Explanation

The 11th stage is the upaśānta-moha stage, where passions are only suppressed, not destroyed. Because they are merely suppressed, they can break out again, and the soul falls to a lower stage. Digambar texts describe that after the downfall, the soul may again climb only by re-entering the proper ascent; if the soul remains fit, it may later take the kṣapaka-śreṇi, which is the destructive path and does not fall back. Spiritual Understanding

This shows an important Jain principle: suppression is temporary, but destruction is final. The 11th guṇasthāna is a high state, yet it is not secure like the 12th stage. Therefore, true steadiness comes only through complete destruction of deluding karma, not merely its temporary calming. ( jainqq.org)

    Takeaway

In short, after falling from the 11th guṇasthāna, a soul can rise again only when it מחדש undertakes the path of ascent; but the upaśama-śreṇi is limited, temporary, and can be ascended only twice in one life. ( jainworld.jainworld.com)
