Explain Āsrava iin simple words, and where is the point of entry for karma.

    a month ago 11

    Answer

Āsrava means the inflow of karma into the soul.

In simple words, it is the process by which new karmic matter comes toward the soul and binds with it. This happens because of:

    • activity of mind
    • activity of speech
    • activity of body
    • passions like anger, pride, deceit, and greed

    Explanation

There is no physical hole or single door where karma enters like water entering a pot.

In Jain Dharma, the “point of entry” is understood as:

    • the soul’s activities
    • especially the yoga of mind, speech, and body
    • and the kashayas or passions that attract karma

So, karma enters and binds to the soul through these vibrating activities. Because of this, Āsrava is called the cause of bondage.

    Spiritual Understanding

Āsrava is important because it shows why karma keeps coming to us.

If we stop harmful thoughts, speech, actions, and passions, then:

    • new karma will not flow in so strongly
    • the soul becomes calmer and lighter
    • the path to saṃvara (stoppage of karma) begins

So, in Jain life, the main goal is not only to understand Āsrava, but also to reduce it through restraint and awareness.

    Takeaway

Āsrava = inflow of karma. The point of entry is not a physical place, but the soul’s activities of mind, speech, and body, along with passions.

If you want, I can also explain Āsrava, Bandha, Saṃvara, and Nirjarā in one simple chart.
