what is aasakti
In Jainism, aasakti (आसक्ति) refers to attachment or emotional clinging to people, objects, or experiences. Attachment is considered a form of kashaya (passion or defilement), which leads to the accumulation of karma and hinders spiritual progress.
According to Jain philosophy, one should strive to cultivate vairagya (detachment or dispassion) and reduce aasakti, as attachment binds the soul to the cycle of birth and death (samsara). Practicing non-attachment (aparigraha) is one of the five main vows (mahavratas) for ascetics and an important principle for lay followers (shrāvakas) as well.
By overcoming aasakti, a person can progress on the path of liberation (moksha) and achieve inner peace and equanimity (samata).
