    Explain mohiniya karma

    a month ago 4

    Answer

Mohaniya karma is the karma that causes delusion, attachment, and wrong understanding. It is one of the most powerful karmas in Jain Dharma because it obscures the soul’s natural qualities of clarity, detachment, and right faith.

    Explanation

In Jain philosophy, karmas bind the soul and affect how we think, feel, and behave. Mohaniya karma makes a person:
    • develop attachment to people, objects, and pleasures
    • feel anger, pride, deceit, and greed
    • lose right belief and right conduct
    • become confused about what is truly good for the soul

It is called “mohaniya” because it creates moha, meaning delusion or infatuation. This karma is considered especially dangerous because it keeps the soul trapped in worldly life.

Mohaniya karma is mainly divided into two broad types:

    • Darshan Mohaniya Karma: affects right faith or right perception
    • Charitra Mohaniya Karma: affects right conduct and behavior

    Spiritual Understanding

In Jainism, liberation comes from removing all karmic bondage. Mohaniya karma is one of the main obstacles because it hides the soul’s wisdom and purity. When this karma is strong, a person may know what is right but still not follow it. That is why self-control, equanimity, forgiveness, and detachment are so important.

Reducing Mohaniya karma helps a seeker:

    • develop right faith
    • remain calm in difficult situations
    • reduce worldly attachment
    • move closer to the path of liberation

    Takeaway

Mohaniya karma is the karma of delusion and attachment. It is the root cause of spiritual confusion, and overcoming it is essential for true progress on the Jain path.
