Can u give a list of food items accepted by mahasatiji during chomasa

    4 weeks ago 2

    Answer

There is no single universal list, because what a mahasatiji accepts during Chomasa depends on her vows, tradition, and Upashraya rules.

In general, a Jain mahasatiji may accept:

    • Rotli / phulka / plain roti
    • Plain rice
    • Khichdi
    • Simple dal / var
    • Plain seasonal cooked vegetables, if allowed in that tradition
    • Milk, curd, buttermilk, ghee, if permitted
    • Ripe whole fruits, if accepted in that place
    • Simple, fresh, sattvic food prepared without onion, garlic, or root vegetables

    Usually not accepted:

    • Onion, garlic, potato, and other root vegetables
    • Food after sunset
    • Stale, impure, or over-spiced food
    • Any non-vegetarian item, egg, or food involving hiṃsā

    Explanation

During Chomasa, Jain sadhviji observe greater restraint and purity in food. The main focus is:
    • Ahimsa
    • Purity
    • Simplicity
    • Freshness
    • Proper discipline in acceptance

So the exact list can change from one mahasatiji to another.

    Spiritual Understanding

Chomasa is a time of increased tapas, संयम, and spiritual discipline. Food is accepted not for enjoyment, but only to support साधना. The simpler the food, the greater the emphasis on inner detachment.

    Takeaway

If you want to offer food, the safest choice is simple, fresh, sattvic Jain food made according to the specific mahasatiji’s rules.
