Does tirthankara bhagwan make use of manovargana?
Answer
A Tirthankara Bhagwan, after attaining kevalajñāna, does not use manovarganā in the ordinary sense of thinking with a worldly mind. He knows directly through kevalajñāna, not through mental construction like ordinary beings.Explanation
In Jain Dharma:- Manovarganā refers to subtle pudgala associated with the mind.
- Ordinary souls with a functioning mind use manovarganā for mental activity.
- A Tirthankara Bhagwan before kevalajñāna, while living as an embodied being, would have a mind like other embodied souls.
- But after kevalajñāna, the Bhagwan’s knowledge becomes direct and पूर्ण, so there is no dependence on ordinary mental thinking.
At the same time, a Tirthankara Bhagwan in the sayogi kevalī stage still remains in the body until nirvāṇa, so the soul is not completely free from all activity until liberation.
Spiritual Understanding
This shows the great difference between:- ordinary cognition, which depends on mind and pudgala, and
- omniscience, which is pure and direct.
For a Tirthankara Bhagwan, knowledge is no longer mediated by the mind. This is why the kevalī state is considered the highest purity of consciousness.
